The Ruddy Potato began as Dunfield and Daughters in a tiny space in lower Snug Cove on Bowen Island. In 2001, after a change in ownership, the Ruddy opened its present location ~ a custom-built building in Village Square. The Ruddy Kitchen and Café on Sunset Road were added in 2007 to provide freshly prepared meals, baked goods, and sandwiches. The Ruddy Deli/Café was added to the store location in 2014 with both indoor and outdoor seating. In August 2020 the Ruddy was purchased by Summer Equinox Foods Market Inc and continues to operate as The Ruddy on Bowen, privately owned and managed, supporting a full complement of local staff.
